Having long, thick, naturally semi-wavy hair, I've never really had to learn much about hair styling. I just wash, air dry, and go. Washing my hair, however, is a process in and of itself. The shampoo never gets all the way through my hair. It soaps and lathers into a big bubbly blob right on top of my scalp, failing to obey my hands as they attempt to properly clean my hair. Getting hard to reach spots, like the back of my head, clean has always been a nightmare. There is simply too much hair to manoeuvre.<br />
<br />
Enter: the bar of shampoo, sold at LUSH. Far from acting as a disgusting, hard-to-lather, residue-leaving bar of soap, the bar of shampoo has changed my life, and, with it, my hair. Besides being cost-effective and good for the environment (the average bar lasts 80 washes and requires no packaging), bars of shampoo save time and labor, every single step of the way. I no longer have to will my shampoo to lather into the back of my scalp, I can just rub it right where I need it go. It lathers quickly and rinses out perfectly, without leaving my hair feeling stripped, or worse, coated with weird residue.<br />
<br />
Best of all, bars of shampoo are inherently portable. It's part of their charm. Instead of awkwardly spilling some of my favorite shampoo out of its bottle and into a travel container (and spilling half of it on the floor in the process), all I have to do now is throw my bar in my suitcase (equipped with branded LUSH shampoo bar container, of course). These bars come in several scents, from cinnamon to lavender, and they cater to all different hair types as well. The bar I have now, a dandruff-curing miracle worker that smells like a bonfire, is a personal favorite. So, I encourage you to go out, find your perfect match, and say goodbye to leaky bottles and overly long showers (due to appropriately long hair). All LUSH shampoo bars can be found <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Shampoos/liquid-shampoos,en_US,sc.html" target="_blank">here</a>, along with their liquid shampoos. <div style="text-align: center;">
Or, how to make sure you never find yourself in that position</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Phone cases have always been a point of deep personal shame in my life. As a middle schooler, receiving my first cell phone was a right of passage, my glorious foray into the world of choosing the perfect text signature and never having to ask to borrow someone's phone. Unfortunately, whatever indestructible hunk of plastic and rubber I so gratefully received pre-data plan (a time that I have now blocked from my memory), was not popular enough to warrant the creation of its own phone case. I made do by festooning the back of my phone with 3D jeweled rainbow stickers (the essence of style and class), but it simply was not the same. Life continued that way, my phone unprotected from both the elements and my own clumsy ways, for years. I was living on the edge, a girl on the verge of a breakdown, with a phone that just wouldn't quit. Seriously though, it was commonplace for people to throw their phones at the floor/wall as hard as the could. Try doing that with your iPhone and see what happens.<br />
<br />
Finally, about a year ago, my shining moment came. My father upgraded phones, which meant that I could now use his old iPhone (a 4s). I was elated, not only because of the instant street cred boost that comes with whipping out your iphone to search something on google or ask siri where the nearest Dairy Queen is, but because I could now (finally) purchase the phone case of my dreams. I snapped on my mother's old rubber case for interim phone protection (those glass screens break so easily), and set off into the world, armed with my new phone, an affirmation that I was now an adult.<br />
<br />
A year later, I am still stuck with the same disintegrating black case. How I allowed this to happen, I have no idea. I could use the feeble explanation of whining that stores really don't sell cases for old iPhones anymore, shaking my fist at the moon and cursing Steve Jobs for altering the shape of the phone so arbitrarily. Although that is totally, completely, absolutely true (and very annoying for that matter), it really wouldn't be the entire truth. To be perfectly honest, I don't know how this happened. My old black phone case is literally ripping, falling off my phone constantly, providing almost zero protection, and yet I feel powerless. There are just too many cases out there (not that any of them would fit my phone), and I have no idea what to do. For someone who is so dedicated to expressing my specific sense of style in every aspect of my life, I have really failed when it comes to my cell phone.<br />
<br />
I could easily spend hours in a store obsessing over the same three shades of lipstick, or scents of candles, or pairs of shoes, debating over and over with myself (and my family, and the salespeople, and any unfortunate passersby) which to choose. I am, in short, not great at making decisions, and even less so when the volume of choices is extensive. However, I am putting my foot down. Here, I have compiled a short list of cute (if overpriced) phone cases, and I am forcing myself to make a decision.<br />

For me, at least, with my overly high expectations of the specific reaction my ever-elusive dream dress should evoke, attempting to find a dress in my own town is next to impossible. The department stores are overrun with sparkly gowns festooned with sequins and then bedazzled, of which one can choose from two styles: short or shorter. Although I would never be one to put down my town, which does have some very cool stores, including a boutique that is not a far cry from being "hipster", it's just not the place to find a prom dress, especially if you share my fashion sensibilities and (adorably?) high-strung attitude. Braving the interwebs, however, is equally treacherous.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>Besides the obvious pitfalls of internet shopping (sketchy sizing, misleading photography, un-refundable merchandise), there is the simple fact that one may not be seeing anything different from what is in the stores. Shopping for dresses tagged "prom" will only pull up thousands more images of the aforementioned glitter factory explosions in pastel, while other gowns of equal formality and attractiveness are not exactly cheap. I often find myself stuck between a million forgettable dresses that I actually CAN afford, and some creation from Paris that I can barely afford to look at. The internet, in short, is a mixed bag that must be raided through with care and caution.<br />
<br />
Occasionally, however, one finds a dress worth stopping to stare at. A dress worth gaping at and drooling over and crying about. That is the dress that I will continue to seek out. I vow to ignore every spray of sequins and jewel encrusted bodice in my way. I will find my dream dress or die trying (okay, not really, but you get the picture). In the end, finding a good prom dress is an intensely personal journey. It is not so much about finding a dress that everyone else will find commercially pleasing, but instead about finding something that works for your budget, your body (by which I mean that you feel comfortable in it - screw what other people say), and your life. Prom is a shared night, but the piece you come away with is intrinsically yours. Take ownership of that piece. </div>Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17553780980436314256noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8350341562710865590.post-58240094439444230172014-02-27T20:50:00.000-05:002014-03-12T12:31:28.743-04:00A Bit of An UpdateHello Everyone! Seeing as I have been out of commission for a year now (though I continued to tumblr and pinterest throughout my hiatus), I should probably fill you guys in. As I said before, my blog was confronted with a copyrighting issue that very nearly turned into a legal battle, which made me very afraid to blog for a long time. Even after the issue was settled, and I had found a new name for my blog, I remained disenchanted with blogger and stayed away. I continued to write through other mediums, posting on tumblr on a near daily basis and contributing to blogs in my local area (I was even featured on the Fashion Week of Rochester blog!!!). After a very protracted absence, I've finally decided that I miss having my own blog too much. I miss my readers and I miss having this creative outlet.<br />
<br />
I never really talked about this much in the past, as I kept the topic of the blog pretty strictly fashion-specific (which will probably end up changing), but it has been my goal for many years now to work in journalism. For a long time I was convinced that I belonged in fashion journalism, and I still love fashion and love writing, reading, and talking about it, but I have opened up to more mainstream journalism as well. Basically, I'm in love with it all. There is nothing more amazing than learning about how the world works, going behind the scenes, and making knowledge accessible to everyone. How cool is that?!<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, there is no newspaper at my school. Editing for the literary magazine (I love reading other people's work) and collaborating with the yearbook committee has been fun, but I would really love to have a more concrete journalistic perspective at my school. We do technically have a sort of parent newsletter, but there are so many amazing student voices and opinions at my tiny private school (some might say too many), and it is such a shame that those voices aren't always heard, even simply by the administration. The problem, however, is that many of these people love to talk about the issues, but have not been very interested in the idea of actually having to write about them. In addition, the teachers and administration have not been very encouraging of my repeated requests for permission to start a school paper, even on a trial basis.<br />
<br />
My new year's resolution is to write more (hence restarting the blog), but I'm really hoping I can add creating my school's first newspaper to that list. Writing and journalism are so important to me, and there is just so much not being properly publicized happening in my school's tiny community alone. We shall see what happens.<br />
<br />
Finally, as I am currently in my junior year of high school, I have been thrust full force into the search for the perfect journalism school. For my parents, that school will always be Cornell, no matter what major I am interested in. Personally, I have been dreaming of going to Northwestern for many years. Their journalism school is one of the best in the country (read: impossible to get accepted to). I've been hoping to get into their high school summer journalism program ever since I read about it several years ago, but I'm now being faced with the crippling anxiety that I won't get in. Many of the people accepted there are editors of high school newspapers and the like, an opportunity I just don't have. Granted, I do have you, my lovely readers, and the other blogs that have been generous enough to accept me, but that just doesn't seem like enough.<br />
<br />
Regardless, I am sending in my application, and staying positive. Whether I get in or not, this is my year to improve my writing and really focus on journalism. I have you guys to thank for inspiring me to refocus and redouble my efforts, so really, thank you. Your comments and your readership keeps me going on days when I feel like no one is listening. So, I'm officially back. Get ready.Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17553780980436314256noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8350341562710865590.post-81996661312111735142014-02-27T20:19:00.001-05:002014-03-01T18:12:17.411-05:00NY Fashion Week - Some MusingsHello Internet! Welcome to my new blog, Awkward Glamour (previously Wardrobe Hazard). Copywriting issues and other problems have FINALLY been worked out, so I can get back to bugging you guys on a daily basis. As you may or may not know, New York Fashion Week is currently underway. Not only is this incredibly exciting news for any devoted style.com stalker such as myself, but it is the fall/winter season, my personal favorite.<br />

Living in a north-western chunk of New York State that is basically part of Canada, there is nothing I love more than a cute coat. The absolute tragedy in that is that most cute coats are just that: cute. So, while I may look cool walking around outside, I am, in fact, freezing. In weather that is almost always below freezing, cute just doesn't cut it. This season, however, promises style without compromising warmth. The giant cropped chubby jackets at Marc Jacobs, for instance, are ridiculously cool, as well as a nostalgic reminder of those gorilla keychains that come on Kipling bags. The buzz word for many of the coats shown, really, is texture. Whether it be knit at Calvin Klein, shearling at Elizabeth and James, glitter at Rodarte, or Marc Jacobs's artificial gorilla fur, there is nothing ordinary about these coats. They are distinctive and bold, all while keeping you toasty warm. They combat both the polar vortex and the fashion police, making them perfect for any fashionista who just can't sacrifice extremities to look chic. </div>

Rodarte, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, and Rodarte all channeled seventies glamour, complete with plunging necklines, disco glitter, and Star Wars. The slinky dresses, complemented with a ridiculously awesome fur at Ralph Lauren, look just like a costume Jennifer Lawrence might accidentally get Doritos on in American Hustle (google it). The coat and pants look at Rodarte is so perfect for fall, with all the strength of a modern working woman. The grecian-style dress, complemented with a print of C-3PO, is somehow ethereal and otherwordly, looking as if it came from a galaxy far far away. In short, these looks are sexy and powerful. I can feel the feminism. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">

</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">
Lastly, there was a strong undercurrent of nineties minimalism and menswear dressing going on. A gray pantsuit at Ralph Lauren was simple and neutral, without being forgettable. Part of that, however, may have come from the fact that the model wasn't wearing anything <i>under </i>said gray pant suit, a rather NSFW choice to style the working woman. One of my favorite parts of the Marc Jacobs show was (besides the gorilla references) was the head-to-toe knitted sweater look. Like I said before, I basically live in the arctic. I need that outfit to keep warm, and channel nineties neutrals while doing so. I could top my arm warmers, leggings, scarf, and vest off with the menswear inspired look from Elizabeth and James. That big slouchy sweater is what dreams are made of, and those pants, well, frankly they look like what old men dream <i>in</i>, but in the best way possible. The vibe is great, and the strong, simple, menswear, mixed with the feminist power of the seventies, will definitely make for a totally awesome, slightly gender confused fall. Who's excited?!</div>

It is mostly about my relationship with fashion, and my blog. I even mention you guys! Unfortunately, because of a deadline issue, I didn't write nearly as much about blogging as I wanted to, but, alas. Anyways, here it is:</i></span></div>

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I have been obsessed with fashion, in some sense, since the day I was born. As a kid, I loved playing dress-up with my friends and making up a wide variety of stories to go with our eclectic attire. One of my favorite things to do was pretend I was from a random time in history, and dress the part, naturally. My friend from elementary school will never let me live down the time that I (in maybe 1st grade) invited her over to play, and then forced her to spend the entire duration of our play date scrubbing the floors with kitchen sponges, pretending we were maids in some mansion from long ago, me wearing my favorite costume, a dress and corset-ish belt thing, picked up from the renaissance festival. Something about the combination of the sartorial and the imagined coming together was very appealing to me. That fascination with the combination of clothing and storytelling led me to many of my interests, such as gymnastics and theatre, along with a brief and rather unsuccessful stint as a ballerina. Nowadays, however, I am more interested in the tangible than the conceptual. I find that combination of clothing and storytelling in fashion editorials, images that, for the most part, are purely for that purpose; to tell a story, and to feature clothing, winding the two concepts (the clothing and the story) around each other until they are one. It is surprising however, how much of an impact these seemingly frivolous photographs can have on society. Fashion editorials, when done well, are truly a snapshot of the times. Take this photograph from an editorial done by Camilla Nickerson in 1995:</span></div>

That was also around the time of the first attack on the World Trade Center, which also resulted in more surveillance, and really brought an awareness to the need for surveillance and higher security. Regardless of reasons, everyone was being watched, all the time. Creepy. So, Vogue, and more specifically, the fabulous Camilla Nickerson, had the inspiration to do a shoot based around the idea of being watched, of surveillance cameras. These images commented on the feeling at that time, on what was going on, and, on where things were headed. Looking at this picture, and knowing the background information, it is very easy to see that. At the same time, this picture of a beautiful girl (Kate Moss) wearing a beautiful dress is a cool picture even if you have no idea what’s going on in it. That is, in essence, a fashion editorial. Aesthetically beautiful, but, after some analysis and some context, very thought provoking.</span></b></b></div>

For this reason, beyond all the internet sites that essentially are for the same purpose (pinterest, tumblr, etc.), I keep a good old-fashioned inspiration board hanging in my room. Seeing the collage of images, hanging straight and orderly (in very un-collage-like fashion), influences what I wear, what I do, what I talk about, and how I see the world, in it’s own way. Here are some examples of things currently hanging on my inspiration board (which is in desperate need of an update):</span></b></b></b></div>

I find a lot of the images I use on my board on the internet, more specifically on tumblr and pinterest. I am legitimately addicted to tumblr, and its a genuine problem. Tumblr is a sort of make-your-own-blog site that’s fairly popular with people my age, mainly girls. I basically think of it as blogging for dummies, or, to their faces, “beginners”, because 99% of tumblr blogs are pretty much exclusively photo blogs. All you have to do to make your blog, and subsequently TO blog, is click a few buttons. Although that’s all good and well, and very fun, it’s not something I could really call a blog, in the same way I couldn’t call a stick figure a portrait. To me, a blog has to have meta tags. It has to have a banner, and a name that isn’t stupid. It has to have words, and a topic. It has to have a design that is original, original to the point that someone would have to have some basic (read: VERY basic) knowledge of web design to create it. Basically, unless you put some thought and some work into it, I just don’t think of your creation as a blog. A lot of this disdain for many “bloggers” today comes from me myself being a blogger, and having a very bad, very boring, very embarrassing, but very REAL blog. </span></b></b></b></div>

Why in the world I would embark on such an idiotic goal, I have no idea. I had tried to start one many times before, I had blogged about various family trips several times, but, I had never successfully maintained a blog. I wanted something long-term, a goal. So, I began to brainstorm. My problem was not with the content, I have plenty to say about pretty much, well, everything, but the many, many, many tiny details that go into making a blog. I needed a name, and more specifically, an original name. A name with a url that had not already been purchased. Essentially, I needed to create a name, no phrase or word in existence was available. I nearly pulled my hair out looking. Suddenly, one day, it came to me. Wallpaper Pants. Things went on smoothly from there. I set up my website through blogger, picking a simple theme and editing tiny details, like width, colors, location of the various widgets, etc. Next came hours of teaching myself things like meta tags, html code, and a million other web design components that I, after hours of researching, immediately forgot. Eventually, after all my work, it was time to blog. I blogged, and blogged, and blogged. Nothing happened. I connected my blog to my tumblr and pinterest pages, making it Wallpaper Pants; the brand. Still, nothing. And then, slowly, little by little, Readers started coming. Readers started reading. Eventually, readers started commenting, and emailing me, and then, suddenly, quietly, horrifyingly, school started. A full course-load, cross country, and a musical brought a near-end to blogging. I was blogging once a month at most. Readers still read, but numbers were down. Fall ended and winter began, and now here I am, in January. My new year’s resolution is to blog more, a goal I can (hopefully) fulfill. Blogging has been, for a person who literally can not finish a project, transformative for me, and entirely fun. It has taught me about fashion and about myself, and allowed me to work on my quirky-funny blog writing style. Basically, its been great, and its only getting better. It’s strange to think this all started with a little girl, scrubbing floors with a sponge. </span></b></b></span></b></div>

A how-to guide for maxing out your credit card</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
Feeding my addiction to online shopping, and my enormous love of sales, I have been editing and reediting my shopping list from Zara, partially because spending enormous amounts of money on clothes is fun, but not a good life choice, and partially because showing you guys, my readers, a slideshow of 47 items is again, not a good life choice. Regardless here they are, in all their glory. I have already sung my praises for Zara before, so, I might as well just talk about the clothes.<br />
<br />
I always feel a really great throw-on jacket is essential to your wardrobe, whatever your style might be. I've never been a fan of people saying any specific item of clothing is an essential, especially things that so clearly are not, but bear with me here. There is absolutely a jacket out there for everyone, whether that be, as in my case, a cute quasi-motorcycle jacket, or a legitimate, giant, scary, leather motorcycle jacket. Or a letterman jacket. Or a denim jacket. Or a Chanel jacket. Okay, I think you get the point, but if not, you can take it up with Suze Orman.<br />
<br />
Also an essential, a little black dress (groundbreaking, right?). It's great for parties, funerals, concerts of the school variety (do not wear this to go see lady gaga), and pretty much everything in between. I love the jeweled collar on these two below. Which of the two do you guys prefer? I can't decide and it's killing me.<br />
<br />
I am still loving the peplum trend (and praying it's still relevant) and therefore am in total need of both peplum pants and tops, naturally. Peplums are totally flattering, fic (fun and chic), and yet, as this is all from the sale section, potentially very, very, very last season. At least I admit to my fashion sins.<br />
<br />
Also on the roster are some cool camo pants, a skirt in a tweedy material that I swear looks just like Chanel, and some loungewear-type scarf print pants that I hope to rock when the weather gets a little warmer (which, up here in the north, is never). So, that's my list! Broke-itude, here I come.<br />

Weaving together fashion, history, and raw emotion</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Perusing the fall shoe sales of the interwebs while bored out of my mind at a football game with the family, I fell upon <a href="http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/322596" target="_blank">these</a> gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana tapestry and leather ankle boots. Something in the needlepoint detailing, and just-ever-so-slightly-off shape of the heel made me yearn for the old country (but does anyone ever know where exactly that is?) Regardless, it brought me back to old memories of failed and fruitless attempts at tapestry creation. Give me a needle and thread, and I will give you back a grubby, knotted ball of that same thread, having lost the needle, of course. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My history with anything close to needlepoint has not been a harmonious one. My first attempts with latch-hooking in grade school resulted in a scruffy looking palm tree pseudo-pillow that I immediately gifted to a bemused cousin. Later attempts with knitting, cross stitching, and crocheting all lead to similar ends. I never even got to needlepoint, and had forgotten, or perhaps repressed my past life as a creator of textiles until I came across that same pillow at my cousin's house the other day, more than half a decade later. Seeing that awkward, out of place palm tree among their sartorial collection of knick knacks made me think back to those formative years, which cemented an eternal love of everything "granny" fashion-wise. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To be honest, I have no idea where the love came from. I have always had a taste for the eccentric, and perhaps that taste for something a bit different than what my cookie cutter classmates were wearing, melded with various semi-strict school dress codes over the years (no jeans, and, for a while, collared shirts only) resulted in my unique tastes. Wherever it came from, it has stayed with me through several different phases, punctuating my closets with florals, sweaters, and tons of skirts. It has saved me, in part, from falling into the high school traps of dressing like a streetwalker or a yoga instructor, and has elicited those gasps of, "what are you <i>wearing</i>?" on many an occasion. Dressing with a dash of "granny" all these years has done me well, and it was those few, slightly different, "granny" type pieces that first allowed me to test the waters of dressing apart from my peers, giving me the courage to rock my wallpaper pants, crazy heels, and whatever else I adore nowadays. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These shoes are the embodiment of what dressing slightly "granny" means to me. However, they are also, without any backstory, simply gorgeous shoes, and I am obsessed. Sadly, at a discount price of $945, they are a bit out of my price range. I wish anyone who wears them the confidence and sense of self that comes simply from wearing them. This post was unexpectedly deep. Hmmmmmm.....</div>

<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; color: black;">I'm very disappointed in myself right now. After all the hard work I did this summer getting this blog set up, and all the amazing followers and friends that I have made from this experience, I've been really behind on my blogging. I've been kicking back and laughing at my original "every few days" blogging rhythm. It's been weeks of silence. But, here I am, promising that from now on, things will be different. Again. Oh well. No matter that I have yet to blog about fashion week(s). No matter that I have homework, play rehearsal, and cross country practice every day. No matter that I will probably only be blogging once a week, if that. I'm back, people.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Aaaaaand, I'm here to talk about Lush cosmetics once again. If I don't stop, people may begin to suspect I'm the daughter of the owner, or a cyborg invented by the Lush corporation to sell products, or a spokeswoman, compensated with free merchandise (hint hint). Anyways, as you have probably gathered from my cringe-worthy personal style shots, or lack of them, I have terrible skin. It's frustrating and upsetting at times, but I deal. It has, in some ways, helped me in life. Would I know this much about makeup and skincare if I had the skin of Cate Blanchett? Probably not. Would I be as diligent about sunscreen, proper washing, and lots of water if I had no need for it? No, again. So, while I can remain enviousn of my gorgeous 9-foot-tall, 90 pound friends who tell me they "never take off their makeup at night" and still have the most perfect, poreless, luminous complections I have ever seen, I can comfort myself with the knowledge that, eventually, my hormones will shut up, and my skin will clear, while theirs will be plagued by the effects of laying out in the sun sans-protection. Or at least, that is what I tell myself. I digress.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Wandering into my local Lush store a while back, I was ambushed by a saleslady, and forced to endure a full facial's worth of products, tried on the back of my hand (the agony). Multiple cleansers and moisturizers and masks thrust upon me, the product lust was almost overwhelming. But I got through it, and half guilt-bought half actual-bought a tub of their Dark Angels cleanser, with a small free-sample-tub of Herbalism cleanser thrown into the mix. Both of these cleansers are from Lush's crazy line of cleanser rolls, rolls of squishy powder-cleanser. You can buy it by weight, like cheese. When you get it home, you have only to pull off a piece, add water, and go. They're so weird, but I love them, and they're so portable its not even funny.<br />
<br />
Both cleansers are made to combat oil and blemishes, but Dark Angels is the more "intense" (god, I hate that word) of the two. Its made with coal, to soak up oil, and give it a bad ass color, and sugar, which, along with the coal, exfoliates very thoroughly. I used Dark Angels every day, for about a month. I saw results right away. My skin was baby soft and awesome looking, on account of the huge amount of scrubbers that are packed into the cleanser, but, as time went on, it got too dry, and wimped out. Sadly, my pseudo-sensitive skin was no match for the roller coaster ride of a life time that is Dark Angels. I now use Dark Angels weekly to exfoliate. Nothing compares to it, and I just love the product. It smells like licorice, looks like asphalt, and feels like...playdough? A few words of advice: Do not use this product in the shower. I know it says to on the website, but I disagree. Whenever I do, the little particles of cleanser stick to my floor, and are a pain to try to rinse away. The sink is much more manageable. Also, rinse VERY well after using. It will give you a five o'clock shadow, and some serious gender confusion issues, if you don't. Anyways, it works great, just not for the faint of...skin. If you have the hardy skin of a miner, this coal-based cleanser is for you. If not, read below. You may like what you see.<br />
<br />
Next on my roster of crazy skin cleansers to try was Herbalism. This is fairly similar to Dark Angels in delivery system (weird squishy powder block) and target (oil and blemishes), but this is more gentle, and suited for my skin. First off, Herbalism is slightly looser and...moister? God, I hate that word, again. It's a bit harder to manage, but not by much, and the payoff, for me at least, was better. Herbalism's oil control abilities are about the same as Dark Angel's, but the scrubbers, made from ground almonds, are much more gentle. Herbalism's main ingredients are rosemary, chamomile, and nettle, which erase blemishes, while ground almonds exfoliate. This was so much better for me than Dark Angels, and its green. Which is pretty awesome. Anyways, thats my story. To my readers: Thank you for putting up with me! And to the Lush Company: I do take payment in products. Thanks :)</div>

<br /></div>
Hey Guys! I know I've been MIA since school started up again, but I'm back, and, in typical wallpaper pants fashion, super edgy. That's right, I'm breaking all the rules. So, that giant, New York Fashion Week sized elephant in the room will have to stay there, because I'm not even mentioning it today. No, I'm here to talk about something much more important, my birthday.<br />
<br />
My birthday is only a few days away, so its time to start thinking about what you're going to get me. Now, I know I told you I didn't want anything, but I hope you know me well enough to know that means I actually do. So, you better start looking, and fast. I have some suggestions, of course. So, here are some birthday wish-list picks, to assist you. All of them are stylin, natch.<br />
<br />
1) "The Batchel" by Cambridge Satchel Company<br />
<br />
These bags are so chic and classic, I've been obsessed for a long time. They go with anything, so they're versatile, but they're bright, so they make a statement. The perfect balance. And, unlike most designer-ish bags, they are not a gajillion dollars (though, for me, an income-less student, it would be a pretty large chunk of my savings). I'm obsessed with the mint green, neon yellow, vintage-y yellow, and powder-ey pink. That's literally a third of the choices. So, yeah. It's a tough call. But, I can't wait for a beautiful fall a new bag on my shoulder (not to be confused with the blue bird on my shoulder).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L5A2yTadoAQ/UFaRx9RC_sI/AAAAAAAAAwg/YLp5LTl3VMA/s1600/Screen+shot+2012-09-16+at+10.57.32+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L5A2yTadoAQ/UFaRx9RC_sI/AAAAAAAAAwg/YLp5LTl3VMA/s400/Screen+shot+2012-09-16+at+10.57.32+PM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2) 21 Drops</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By now, it is fairly clear that I have an obsession with spa products. Its an expensive addiction to fund, but at least my parents can be happy to admit that their daughter isn't on drugs. That doesn't mean I'm not huffing fumes though. Aromatherapy is my drug. Your love is also my drug, but that's different. Aromatherapy has the power to change your mood and make you feel zen. Now, thanks to twenty one drops, that spa-zen feeling is portable. Basically what they are is 21 different aromatherapy blends to treat various ailments such as insomnia, PMS, menopause, and stress. In other words, they make your life a million times better. Personally, I've been three eyeing blends: Sleep, Invigorate, and De-stress. Just another day in the life of an overworked high schooler. Oh well. I don't know about you, but I think a spa in a tube sounds awesome. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TfijdZLQX8Y/UFyk5AqB8tI/AAAAAAAAAxA/U1dWiIUEWWc/s1600/Screen+shot+2012-09-21+at+1.32.43+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TfijdZLQX8Y/UFyk5AqB8tI/AAAAAAAAAxA/U1dWiIUEWWc/s400/Screen+shot+2012-09-21+at+1.32.43+PM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3) A Lush gift card!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most of you know about my obsession with Lush by now. It's a no brainer. I need that stuff.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
More to come....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyways, that's my wish list. I'm totally open to suggestions, though! Email me or comment below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really missed you guys, I'm so happy to be back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Aka sweaters. A lot of sweaters.</div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well, its getting colder outside, which means it's officially (in my mind, and only my mind) fall! Is it still 80 degrees out, yes, would I be able to wear any of these clothes without burning up, no, but school is (for us lucky east-coasters) just around the corner, and that is the only force that truly dictates the beginning of fall. Well, calendars help. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm so looking forward to going apple picking, carving pumpkins, wearing sweaters without judgement, drinking hot apple cider, and eating applesauce and....apples? There's this tangible, awesome energy in the air, and I'm crazy psyched about this new school year. The only draw back, is, unfortunately, my fall is going to be insanely busy! Between cross country, two different plays, school, my blog, and life, sleep is not on the schedule. You guys have already gotten a taste of that business these past days, when cross country pre-season, my brother's bar mitzvah (go jews!), and my internship all coincided, and I didn't have time to post. But I'm back, and, in true wallpaper pants fashion, completely off track. Back to the point of this post.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As a newly minted "fashion blogger" I feel a compulsion to have a look, which is currently a sort of five-year-old-girl-meets-90-year-old-stepford-wife. A lovely combo. I'm trying to get some more "fun" pieces into my wardrobe, and some more age-appropriate, almost edgy pieces as well. I'm trying to dress more my age, without completely getting rid of that "what ARE you wearing" vibe I usually give off. So, without further ado, here are some awesome pieces (lord, that word sounds pretentious), that will help me do that.</div>
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Go watch it. Now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Perusing Netflix last night, I had a sudden hankering to watch "The September Issue", a documentary about the making of American Vogue's September issue, and one of my favorite movies, fashion, or otherwise. But then, I put my foot down. I have seen The September Issue about 9200 times. There had to be another fashion movie like it. A quick search for "fashion movies" lead to the "fashion movies" homepage (who knew that was even a genre?!). Enter, "The Tents", a 2011 documentary about New York Fashion Week's 15 year run at Bryant Park, before it eventually moved to it's current home, Lincoln Center. The premise seemed interesting enough, and one line from the description that had caught my eye sealed the deal, "fashion's biggest names share...". I love any movie with famous fashion commentators. This movie had the motherload. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The movie was amazing, and is now at the top of my favorites list. It chronicled the rise of New York Fashion Week, from an afterthought at the back end of all the different fashion weeks, to the most prestigious and best (not that I'm biased) fashion week of all, not to mention the start of all the fashion weeks. The story was interesting, but the majority of the film described what it was like to be at these shows, important moments in history that affected them, such as 9/11 and Alexander McQueen's death, and the utter chic ice-queen magic powers of Anna Wintour. The absolute best part was the commentary (which was almost all of it). Fashion Week is an event for everybody in the business, stylists, buyers, designers, editors, models, and photographers. So, the list of people that commented is long, and unbelievably illustrious; Glenda Bailey, Betsey Johnson, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Miss J Alexander, Diane Von Furstenberg, Patrick McDonald, Nina Garcia, Kelly Cutrone, Linda Fargo, Suzy Menkes, and a bajillion other people. It was insanity, and I loved it. </div>

<div>
In short, if you have ever dreamed of going to new york fashion week, watch this movie. It will put you there. </div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">A few weeks ago, while perusing the blog-o-sphere in search of some inspiration, when I came across Julia Amodt's blog <a href="http://www.styleandcheek.com/" target="_blank">Style and Cheek</a>. I immediately loved it, and, following my own """expert""" (I had to put more than one set of quotation marks around that, just to show how sarcastic I'm being) blogging advice, which you can read <a href="http://styleandcheek.com/2012/08/15/guest-blogger-wallpaper-pants/" target="_blank">here</a>, I emailed her about a possible collaboration. Our styles, and voices, are fairly similar, and she just seemed so cool and friendly and funny. As luck would have it, she emailed me back! 27+ emails later, here it is. So here we go, blog introduction.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
Her blog has the tone of a very stylin' friend taking you shopping, and it works. She has this effect that just makes you want to buy everything she blogs about, which is awesome, but dangerous. She's hilarious and smart, and has some of the funniest gifs I have ever seen. I have a lot of respect for people with gif talents. The blog is a cool mix of collages, shopping-spree inducing clothing posts, some very witty, but very real advice pulled from unexpected places, and her own signature posts, called "pinterest picks". It's basically a look into her brain. She shares and understands my love of fancy and delicious chocolate, lipstick, and saying "haters gonna hate". Julia, you are incredibly, unfailingly, and awe inspiringly classy, and it shows throughout your blog. You just never stop being <a href="http://fuckyeahgirlshbo.tumblr.com/post/28349334859" target="_blank">classy</a>. (Gif courtesy of...you guessed it, <a href="http://www.styleandcheek.com/" target="_blank">Style and Cheek</a>). I love this because one of my favorite things to do is to take normal things and turn them into "classy things" (exhibit A: classy pudding). Her blog is so uniquely her own, and so memorable and fun to read, genuinely fun to read. Where else would I have learned that <a href="http://styleandcheek.com/2012/08/13/pinterest-picks-what-we-can-learn-from-david-bowie/" target="_blank">David Bowie</a> is my style twin, or nodded my head as repeatedly and whole heartedly as I did when I read her <a href="http://styleandcheek.com/" target="_blank">post</a> about how fashion bloggers that are famous seem to ignore their followers who also have blogs, as if we are out to get them or something. Its cynical but its true. Anyways, this girl's so cool and classy, so listen to what she has to say!</span><br />

She’s an incredible woman and does not get enough recognition for what she does. I love her. She’s ageless and has a wonderful sense of humor. She doesn’t seem to take herself too seriously, and I just really admire that she’s this beautiful, enigmatic woman who went after what she wanted. Here’s an interview with her.<br />

Jelly shoes – those plastic sandal shoes. I had a clear pair when I was probably ten or eleven. I wore them once while exploring construction sites of new homes (alone, mind you) and the stupid shoes turned brown because of all the dirt and had a nasty film left in them. Plus, they’re tacky. Bubblegum or cotton candy pink lipstick/gloss with bronze skin is also really tacky.<br />

It may sound boring but a nice fitted black blazer. It’s the most basic of basics. You’ll need it for interviews, dressing up an outfit or just throwing on over skinny jeans and a t-shirt, though it has to be a good quality piece that is snug in only the right places. The <span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">black blazer is a classic.</span></div>

There are days when it is really tough to stay motivated because personal benchmarks aren’t being met within the time frame I have set for myself. So, this blog's name is wallpaper pants. And, yet, up until this point, no wallpaper pants have been showcased on this blog. You may ask yourself, what are wallpaper pants? Well, to answer, I will quote the online urban dictionary website definition that I wrote and posted on said website myself. "Pants with a print typically associated with wallpaper, such as flowers or a busy design". Wow, not a very good definition, but you get the gist. If you have a second, hop on the site, and give <a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wallpaper%20pants&defid=6698107">my definition</a> (the first one on the page) a thumbs up, or a thumbs down, whatever you want. I'm not the boss of you. Moving on.</div>
<br />
Wallpaper Pants! They are fun and awesome, and I love them. When I got my first pair from Zara, which I talk about <a href="http://www.wallpaperpants.com/2012/06/my-top-picks-from-zara.html">here</a>, I had no idea what to do, or how to wear them. SO, naturally, I threw on another crazy print and called it a day. That's when the magic started. This is the outfit that followed the magic.<br />

<a name='more'></a><br />
I am obsessed, addicted, and consumed with lip products. They make up about 50% of all the makeup I own (which is a lot of product), and yet, somehow, are the least likely to be used. I have stacks of poor glosses and sticks and tints and balms that sit in their container, alone and friendless. Losers. However, I would have to say if my lip-product collection was a high school, which it obviously is, the popular kids would definitely be the lip crayons. They get around. They're super portable, easy to use, and just feel better on your lips than a stick or gloss. They have that, "we're awesome, but we don't care" honey-badger type appeal. They're just that cool. This makes me want to photoshop sunglasses onto them, because if the media has taught us anything, its that if you wear sunglasses, you are one of the cool kids. Period. Sounds logical, right?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nKvlvMGAxbk/UCW8KL8OI2I/AAAAAAAAApQ/dNko_GN7oQo/s1600/Screen+shot+2012-08-10+at+9.57.17+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nKvlvMGAxbk/UCW8KL8OI2I/AAAAAAAAApQ/dNko_GN7oQo/s640/Screen+shot+2012-08-10+at+9.57.17+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
Well aren't those some cool lip crayons. Anyways, back to the lip crayons. I've tried three different brands of lip crayons, which, in my mind at least, are the most popular three. The constantly advertised clinique chubby stick (I still don't understand why there's jello in the ads), the affordable-chic revlon balm-stain stick, and the tarte lipsurgence natural extravaganza. They all sound tempting. They all have benefits. They all have pitfalls. Lettuce continue.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wswXm5qAdcE/UCW_ydHdmnI/AAAAAAAAAps/hoxe36dOD-M/s1600/Screen+shot+2012-08-10+at+10.12.22+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="498" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wswXm5qAdcE/UCW_ydHdmnI/AAAAAAAAAps/hoxe36dOD-M/s640/Screen+shot+2012-08-10+at+10.12.22+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
Get it? Anyways, first up: Revlon Balm Stain. Nice, classy, expensive looking packaging (much better than the much more expensive tarte). I have to say, this is the one I've tried most recently, and it has to be my favorite. First of all, it's a balm. I guess the other sticks are balms of sorts too, but this just has that thick, not budging, super solid, burt's bees lipbalm type feel to it, which I love. I hate any lip product that feels as if it's going to slide off my lips. I also detect a hint of mint, but that's not advertised so who knows. Maybe I'm going crazy. The balm gives a really nice, buildable, slightly shiny color coverage. It just looks really good. It never settles in lip cracks or looks goopy, no matter the state of my lips. In fact, it moisturizes them pretty nicely. The second part of why I love this is that its a stain. So, long after the actual tangible and visible "product" has come off my lips, the color stays. Which I like, because I hate reapplying. If you hate lip color that doesn't fade, you're insane, and this is not for you. Moving on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YDGYPpriDCs/UCXMogtRLJI/AAAAAAAAAqI/PH2b6lx7qWY/s1600/P_Lips_Lipstain_JustBittenKissable.ashx.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YDGYPpriDCs/UCXMogtRLJI/AAAAAAAAAqI/PH2b6lx7qWY/s320/P_Lips_Lipstain_JustBittenKissable.ashx.png" width="164" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next: Tarte Lipsurgence. So, although this one is by far the priciest of the bunch, it is also my least favorite. The design is fairly similar to the other crayons, although the cap broke. That could just have been bad luck though. Or a carefully calculated plot to destroy the world. The world may never know. This has the softest consistency of the bunch, and is the most delicate. It goes on very sheer, with buildable coverage, but never really achieves opacity. Also, the colors, at least the ones I tried, are just worse. Not a big fan of these. They slide off in a second, and are overly shiny looking on my lips. These are probably the most likely to sit in any lip lines and cracks and look gooey and gross. Boo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L32gLidwZ-A/UCa-ad3BgvI/AAAAAAAAAqk/DNVAnZ51rIA/s1600/tarte-lipsurgence-lip-stain-pencil-en.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L32gLidwZ-A/UCa-ad3BgvI/AAAAAAAAAqk/DNVAnZ51rIA/s320/tarte-lipsurgence-lip-stain-pencil-en.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lastly: Clinique Chubby Stick. I like the Clinique chubby stick, I really do. If the revlon one hadn't come out, it would be my favorite. The colors are great, and although they are sheer, they are buildable, and their sheer-ness looks good. They tailor the colors to look good with the sheerness, which is very important. The consistency is more solid than the Tarte, but less so than the Revlon. This is probably the closest to a tinted lip balm, super moisturizing, with just a hint of color. It looks super natural, and really good. I'm typically more into BAM, in-your-face, opaque color, but this just looks so low-key and pretty. Really good for people who like to look natural. Which I do...sometimes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9HxhQ7hySos/UCbHJHctxjI/AAAAAAAAArA/DEnB5k2ZrTA/s1600/_6290011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9HxhQ7hySos/UCbHJHctxjI/AAAAAAAAArA/DEnB5k2ZrTA/s320/_6290011.jpg" width="208" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, anyways, that's my rant. Go out and buy a lip crayon, you'll love it forever. Even when its older and slower and can't fit into its high school jeans anymore. Sunglasses never get too small. Remember that. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Until next time,</div>

Hi Guys! So, I spent the week working at my aunt's house in the Stoney Clover Lane "sweatshop", mailing out boxes to people who had ordered the bracelets through <a href="http://gma.yahoo.com/gma-deals-and-steals-for-summer-fun.html">Good Morning America</a>. For those of you who don't Stoney Clover Lane is, it's a bracelet company that's mainly online (except for the month of July, when they have a small pop-up shop in LA, those lucky californians). Their bracelets are adorable and have this really simple cool-girl je-ne-sais-quoi. The best part is that a quarter of their profits are donated to the dream foundation, which is basically make a wish for adults, a great cause. Basically, these bracelets are made by the coolest people ever, who just happen to be my cousins. So, anyway, my aunt payed me to help out with the shipping while my cousins packed up the pop-up shop. I said yes, obviously. It was a long week of repetitive work, but after it all, I was rewarded, with not only enough money to buy my <a href="http://www.theoutnet.com/product/165046">dream shoes</a> which I speak about in my <a href="http://www.wallpaperpants.com/2012/07/real-list.html">real-list</a> post, but I was gifted two of the three sets that were on sale for the GMA deal, both the glam set (blacks and grays) and starburst set (citrus shades), which were my two favorite sets anyways. Needless to say, I love them.<br />
<br />
I've pretty much worn them constantly ever since, and don't intend to take them off. These bracelets are so cute and comfortable to wear, and I get endless compliments on them. It's insane. I love mixing the two sets together to make this black and yellow and gray and red sammich that is just delicious. In other words, these bracelets are the best. Buy them. Now. <a href="http://www.stoneycloverlane.com/">Here</a>.Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17553780980436314256noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8350341562710865590.post-78251442629248956322012-08-01T21:33:00.003-04:002012-08-11T16:55:14.252-04:00Lush Review : Take Two<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Also known as me bragging about how much Lush I have...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
As you guys probably know, from my previous long, drawn out, painful, gushing <a href="http://www.wallpaperpants.com/2012/06/my-obsession-with-lush-cosmetics.html">post</a> about Lush cosmetics, I'm kind of in love with those guys. They are the the pickles to my....brine? The key to my safe (by which I mean they are excellent at coaxing me to spend all my money in one sitting). Not only are their products super cool, but their employees are consistently not only kind, knowledgeable, and helpful, but really fun and awesome. They all genuinely seem to love the products, and understand what you're looking for. I typically hate being bothered by pushy salespeople, but these cosmetic warriors always seem to take on this, "I am your friend, and as your friend, I will recommend these products. Now let me give you a facial!" thing that I enjoy. So, A+ to them on hiring the best salespeople ever. Also, they give samples. Not in a, "oh, would you like a sample?" way, but in a "here are 7 samples, take them and use them" sort of manner. It's amazing. I love these people. And now, the products.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Mint-Julips/03057,en_US,pd.html?start=1&q=mint%20julips">Mint Julips Lip Scrub</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I love lip products. Whether its a gloss, a stain, a stick, a crayon, a pencil, a pair of wax lips, it's probably been on my mouth at one point or another. However, sometimes, especially during the winter, in trying to rock a red lip, I'll look like I put my lipcolor on with a crayon. It's a chunky, peeling, awful mess, all due to my peeling lips. They're not even dry, they just peel. It's beyond annoying. I've tried the ineffective and kind of gross "toothbrush trick", intense moisturizing, and even rubbing them with a washcloth, but nothing has worked, until now. I picked a little tub of this stuff up on a whim the other day when I was in the lush store, and now I'm addicted. Whenever I use the scrub, which is almost every night, the results are surprisingly dramatic and instantaneous. The scrub tastes like a thin mint cookie, made with castor sugar, jojoba oil, peppermint oil, and vanilla extract. The peppermint, combined with the friction of the scrub, leaves a nice tingly feeling on your lips, even after you lick off the scrub (my favorite part). Finish with a thick lip balm to moisturize your kisser, and your set. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Vanishing-Cream/02805,en_US,pd.html?start=1&q=vanishing%20cream">Vanishing Cream</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As you guys may or may not have gotten from my many long, drawn out posts on the subject, I kind of have the worst skin ever. It's an intensely oily, combination, super sensitive mess. So, naturally, I have to moisturize with a moisturizer that works with my tricky skin everyday, and NOT with one of those crazy, "look we put acid in our moisturizer!" ones. So, when the lady at lush started throwing samples at me, I'm glad she included a shot of this in the bunch. First off, it smells amazing, because of the lavender oil it contains to "balance" skin, and the rose water, which is just for fun. Also on the ingredients list, witch hazel, to tighten pores, shea butter, to lightly moisturize, and geranium oil, which is an astringent. The moisturizer is super light, and vanishes on my skin almost immediately, so there's no greasy feeling (hence the name). My skin feels clean and moisturized, and not too oily. Bravo! My only complaint, which may cause me to hold off on buying the real thing, is the price tag of 40 dollars for what seems like not that much cream. The price of beauty is a steep one. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lately, I've been trying to find a new toner, so I picked this one up from Lush. Toner seems to be the unsung hero of skincare, cleaning up the hidden mess your cleanser left behind, and making your skin soft and gorgeous. Well, who wouldn't want that? This toner has changed my life. Whenever I use it, I just feel my skin clearing up. The main ingredient, is, obviously, tea tree oil, which is an antiseptic to clean bacteria out of your pores. Next up, grapefruit and juniper water to soak up all the excess oil, to give you a matte finish. It treats my acne without overdrying my skin because it's water based, not alcohol based (like most toners). I love it in the morning, after I've washed my face, but it also makes an awesome pick-me-up for tired skin, at any point in the day. Seriously, just try this stuff. You'll be amazed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Brazened-Honey/06092,en_US,pd.html?start=7&q=mask">Brazened Honey</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I stalked this mask online a while ago, but had to wait to run out of my other lush face mask (cosmetic warrior) to get it. It is listed on the site as the deepest cleansing mask, and got great reviews. Now, I understand why. The mask is made with a base of kaolin mud, which deep cleanses the pores, and contains eggs and honey, to soften skin, lime oil, which is an astringent, rosemary, which is an antiseptic, and ground almonds, to exfoliate. This crazy mix of ingredients mix together to reveal the most beautiful skin of your life. I swear I was still glowing the day after I used it, I didn't even wear makeup. This one is hands down my favorite mask for tired skin, and its just what the doctor ordered. Congratulation lush, for another awesome product. You guys just can't screw up, can you?</div>

<br />
<a name='more'></a>Hey Guys! I hope you remember the post I did a while ago about my "<a href="http://www.wallpaperpants.com/2012/07/real-list.html" target="_blank">Real-List</a>" of shoes. There's the link incase you don't. Anyways, that was a post dedicated to the shoes that I want and can (possibly) get. They were all available in my price range and size. This is a very different post. This is my "Dream-List" a post about the ridiculously, impossibly, dangerously expensive and gorgeous shoes that I want, yet, can not have. Most, if not all of these shoes are also sold out in every size except the very small and very large. Oh well. A girl can dream...<br />

<br />
Hi Guys! Sorry I haven't posted in FOREVER! I was chillin' in the wilds of Canada on a family vacation, and there was pretty much zero internet. There were however, bears. Everywhere. I guess that's an acceptable tradeoff. Anyways, I'm back now, and I brought my gameface. My goal right now is just to (of course) blog, but I'm really trying to do this as regularly as possible. I'm aiming for AT LEAST every 3 days. We'll see how that turns out. Also, I'm trying to really boost readership/traffic, and just spread the wallpaper pants "brand" (god, that sounds so pretentious), which has officially been christened with a shiny new domain name, www.wallpaperpants.com (but, duh, you're already here). I'm very proud of all the elaborate and complicated blogging tools I've taught myself to use, such as dns and html (jk I still suck html). Anyways, enough about me and how amazing I am, onto someone much more amazing and then I!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
So, the other day, I was just clicking through one of my favorite street style blogs, <a href="http://www.streetpeeper.com/" target="_blank">Street Peeper</a>, when I saw the above photo.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">There are so many things right about this picture it hurts. First of all, just look at her legs. Look how toned they are, they're too perfect. I'm beyond jealous. Not to mention she's biking in a pretty sizable pair of heels! And that turban! That dress! The sunglasses! The look of absolute and crippling chicness! That bag! The bike itself! Okay, I think I've used enough exclamation points to have made my point. Anyways, I was absolutely stunned by the perfection of this picture. I had to know who this woman was. So, I went to visit "my hookup down at the station" (google) and typed in "Catherine Baba". Once again, google has introduced me to my newest idol. </span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">So, everybody, meet Catherine Baba. Madame Baba is an australian stylist living in Paris, and a bit of an enigma. Her history and birthdate are mirky, as she lists her birth-year as 1936, a tribute to the year she would have like to have been born in. Miss Baba exudes old hollywood glamour, bringing to mind a mysterious, glamorous 30s starlet. This is not to say, however, that she is in any way old fashioned. Baba is a frequent attendee of parties, and legend has it that one particular evening, she removed a chandelier from it's home on the ceiling, put it on her head, and wore her particularly unstable hat all night, while simultaneously DJing a party. Her style is constant, but consistent. She is not one to be a slave to trends, but rather creates her own look, which does not change. This look often includes a turban, sunglasses, heels, her bicycle, and whatever uniquely glamorous ensemble she has for the day. As with many of her fans, her uniqueness, and the fact that she has created such a persona for herself, are what fascinate me. Baba has her own way of greeting people (mainly be screaming DAAARLING), her own method of transportation (biking around in heels), her own way of dressing, and her own way of seeing the world. This quote of hers is one of my favorites, "<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 20px;">Since I am an insomniac, darling, I decided to live & watch rather than get back to my bed".</span></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 20px;">On top of all this sartorial awesomeness, Baba just happens to be a stylist-extraordinaire. She has worked with Chanel, Balmain, Givenchy, Vanity Fair, and even Vogue. Here are some examples of her work:</span><br />

After some intense online shopping, I've compiled a list of shoes that I would love to get. This is my "real-list : heel edition". When I say real-list, I mean realistic. That means, A, the shoes have to be in my size, and B, they have to be in my price range. I have a whole other dream-list for those gorgeous, way too small, overpriced confections that I've spotted. I'll show you guys that one later. These are all from the outnet, my favorite online shopping destination, and I tried to keep them all in the 100-300 range. So, pricey, but not ridiculous. Something I could probably purchase with some babysitting/bat mitzvah/birthday money. Anyways, here they are! Tell me what you think of the layout, I finally figured out how to do one of those cool collage-type things!</div>

Hey Guys! Sorry about the little hiatus from posting, my internet was down, and I was super busy, and a million other excuses that no one wants to hear :p But I'm back now, and head over heels lusting over the Markus Lupfer pieces, and more specifically sweaters that I keep seeing on sale on Net-a-Porter, and all my other favorite online shopping sites. The sweaters, amongst other things are super graphic and awesome, and really quirky/silly, which is so me. I can definitely picture these with a pair of jeans or a cute skirt. I swear literally every outfit I wear during the colder months is just a different variation on the same theme: fun sweater + circle skirt + tights. Well, one of these will jazz that up. Or break me out of the style rut that i usually fall into come january, hopefully. Anyways, there they are!<br />

<br />
Hi Guys! I have a confession to make : Hi, my name is Haley and I am a beauty junkie (please forgive me for using such a horrendously annoying term). When I first began to get into blogging, about two years ago, I wanted to make a beauty blog. I've always been a humongous beauty nerd, and semi-hoarder (okay, full on hoarder) of beauty products. That didn't really pan out at the time, as, like many people, my first blog was a giant flop. I'm pretty sure I posted about three times before giving up and starting anew with this fashion/inspiration/whatever blog. Don't get me wrong, I love fashion, and it is a big part of my life. I'm a both a fashion magazine and online shopping addict. The embarrassing part is, I only buy the stuff about half of the time, the other half just get's stuck in my wish list (not that I care, I like editing and picking out just the right things to put in my shopping bag as much if not more than actually buying it!). But, beauty is also a huge obsession of mine, that I haven't really shared on this blog that much. I'm going to be changing that!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
So, I thought I 'd start off with a part review, part testimonial of the Lush Cosmetics brand. For those of you who haven't heard of Lush, it is a Brit based cosmetics company, whose products are pretty much all organic, cruelty free, ethically sourced, good for the world goodness. They, unlike many "organic" cosmetics brands, seem genuinely interested in bettering the world, and do a lot of extra "world bettering" on the side. <a href="https://www.lushusa.com/A-LUSH-Life/about-us,en_US,pg.html" target="_blank">This</a> video basically explains their whole brand. What's also really cool is the products themselves, because, besides being all organic and minimally packaged and amazing, they're fresh. You heard me (well actually, no, you didn't, but who cares...), fresh. I mean like, they have a "food-like" expiration date fresh. It's pretty awesome to think about the fact that what you're putting on your face is so close to the earth, so you know you're not putting on a bunch of random chemicals and preservatives. Of course, the expiration date obviously has some drawbacks, as it means things can have to get tossed out while there's still product in them, depending on how often you use them, but honestly, I've used the products past their expiration date, and noticed pretty much zero difference. So I don't know how binding that expiration date is...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://madeleineswann.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/lush-cosmetics.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" id="il_fi" src="http://madeleineswann.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/lush-cosmetics.jpg" style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Anyways, you can pretty much already tell I love Lush. They're products are original and fun (they're solid shampoo bars and toothpaste are GREAT for travel), and they're made with great stuff. So, without further ado...here are some of my favorites, in no particular order, and some of the things I REALLY want to try (I'll do another post once I try them).<br />
<br />
<b>Favorites:</b><br />
<br />
1) <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Cupcake/06095,en_US,pd.html?start=2&q=cupcake" target="_blank">Cupcake Face Mask</a>: This is a chocolate and mint face mask for oiler, teenage, acne prone skin. I REALLY liked it. First of all, it smells AMAZING! And the scent stays with you, even after the mask is off. It also contains rhassoul mud, which really cleans out all the gunk in my skin. This one is really nice, and super fun to use. It works great, and I highly recommend it. My skin feels so soft and clean afterwards, and smells awesome. Plus, this mask has a nice consistency and smell, unlike some of their other masks, such as the one I'm about to bring up...<br />

<a href="http://demandware.edgesuite.net/sits_pod18/dw/image/v2/AAHL_PRD/on/demandware.static/Sites-Lush-Site/Sites-lushcosmetics-export/en_US/v1340834120787/images/product/06095.jpg?sw=350&sh=350" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Cupcake" border="0" height="200" src="http://demandware.edgesuite.net/sits_pod18/dw/image/v2/AAHL_PRD/on/demandware.static/Sites-Lush-Site/Sites-lushcosmetics-export/en_US/v1340834120787/images/product/06095.jpg?sw=350&sh=350" title="Cupcake" width="200" /></a></div>
2)<a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Cosmetic-Warrior/06094,en_US,pd.html?start=1&q=cosmetic%20warrior" target="_blank"> Cosmetic Warrior Face Mask</a>: This face mask is also for oily, acne prone skin. However, this is better for easily irritated skin, as it's main claim to fame is that it treats all your acne, without over drying and making your skin flip out. I used this over the winter, when my skin tends to be a bit dry, but still spotty, and it did a really great job of treating the acne without aggravating the dryness like some other masks do. It really made me consider the idea of using more natural cleansers and treatments, as they seem very effective, and less scary. There is however one drawback: It smells.....funky. This mask is made from garlic, tea tree oil, honey and egg whites. The honey and egg moisturize, while the tea tree treats acne, and the garlic acts as an antiseptic. These are all awesome, powerful ingredients, but they lead to a smell that may be a bit unsavory. The mask looks equally unsavory (don't trust the online picture, mine looked nothing like that), and is kind of weird to put on, as it has some chunks in it. I promise you though, if you can stand it, it's worth it. Your skin will thank you!<br />

3) <a href="http://www.lushusa.com/Jumping-Juniper/00554,en_US,pd.html?start=10&q=shampoo" target="_blank">Jumping Juniper Shampoo Bar</a>: I'll be honest, this is the only solid shampoo bar I'v ever tried, but still, it's really cool! My hair generally gets pretty oily after a day, so I usually end up washing twice just to de-gunk everything. This bar, which was surprisingly easy to use, got everything out in one wash. It smells amazing, and lathers very nicely. The really handy things is, you just rub the bar wherever you need shampoo, so there's no annoying process where you have to work the shampoo through your hair, like most shampoos. However, a word to the wise: buy a shampoo bar tin (they sell them), or cover it up somehow. Mine melted a lot just from being unprotected in my shower, and that definitely wasted it. Otherwise, this is a great product, check them all out, I'm sure they're great!<br />

My Zara order FINALLY came! I'm loving everything in it, and keeping almost all of it...a few things fit me weird, but "que sera". So, one of the pieces that I was most excited to try on, and now most in love with, is <a href="http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/us/en/zara-us-S2012/189503/798013/FISH%2BPRINT%2BDRESS" target="_blank">this</a> crazy fish print dress. It's a pale blue, thick, reflective material, that looks vaguely like the ocean, and then on on the skirt there's an ocean scene with lots of fish. It's one of those "wearable photograph" pieces. I've never really had anything like it before, and it's AWESOME. The cut is also very interesting. It has a very feminine fit-and-flare style cut, with exposed zipper and "v neck" in back. I love the juxtaposition of the bionic, very scientific/edgy printing of the dress, with the girly, fun cut. It made for some difficult choices shoe-wise, though....<br />
<br />
So, basically i spent half an hour standing in my closet trying on shoes. I had no idea what to do. My first thought was to go with the edgier print of the dress with a cool, almost bionic shoe. Then, I had the idea to do something girly (which is more my typical look). I ended up just showing you guys both, because I couldn't decide. I then accessorized with an some awesome costume jewelry (a dragonfly pin from the musée d'orsay, and vintage wraparound snake bracelet). My bracelet promptly disappeared from my arm, only to be found an hour later after it was too late. You guys will see it another time, I promise! So, yeah. I didn't want to overpower the dress, because, although I accessorized a tiny bit, I really want this to be about showing you the dress, not the outfit. I have to say, I think the pictures turned out pretty well considering it was my first ever photo-shoot! So, without further ado, I present to you, my dress! Give me some critique, I know I need it desperately...<br />

Reviewing these pictures, I think I prefer the edgier shoes. I like playing up that side better. What do you guys think?<br />

Summer shopping time! Loving the AMAZING prints at Zara, if you haven't seen them already, go! NOW! They're going fast. Very Mary Katrantzou meets vintage botanical prints, in my opinion. Regardless, they're adorable. And I need them. Now. I'm obsessed with Zara. I love that they have items that genuinely look like something from a designer, but at a less pulse-quickening price. I'm a prints girl, what can I say? I'm so excited to wear these shorts all summer. Track season legs are good for something after running is over...<br />
XOXO,<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The awesome and talented artist Qi Wei has recently created an Exploded Flowers series made up of, you guessed it, deconstructed flowers. It is crazy gorgeous and so cool! This would make such creative wall art! Also, this weirdly reminds me of the cosmos. Supernovas or something like that, with those explosive, dramatic colorful beauty. They're a sort of controlled and quiet chaos. (God this sounds pretentious!). Anyway, just look at them, they are amazing.
